 COLORADO DONE!!

335 miles this leg ....total now 1873 miles

July 17 to Aug 3

City of Leadville  'Official Town Greeter'
(self appointed I think...nice guy though)

Took the 'Silverthorne bypass'
Civilized bike paths & motels........Awesome!!

Water......you get it where you can.......usually not this easy

Another pass.....still part of the Silverthorne bypass
Back on the proper trail again

Heading out on into the alpine....nice rambling

Except for the afternoons.......thunderstorms.........downright scary at times!

So you hike in the mornings........

This is about as 'artistic' as I get....so enjoy!

A sign....don't do this...don't do that.....

Don't hang glide?.....where?.....

(a good take off field I suppose?)

Down to Grand Lake
Super friendly 'Lee' at Arapaho Valley Ranch
(would have stayed there but the timing didn't work)

My namesake restaurant in Grand Lake

Apparently the trail gets lots of support.......
(you'd never guess going by some of the trail!)
And in other parts they go overboard.......go figure!

Just to prove I actually hike the trail.......(and didn't google everything)

My 'Toni  Onley' attempt.

A fire lookout......really small door.....don't stand straight up.....I found out why!

This is the awesome part.......constant flowers in the alpine....all types

just nice!

Camping with like minded hikers at a small lake

(we'll call it Darrell's lake)

With a beautiful sunset!

My fourth 'Moose'.....impressive animals......have the 'bear spray' ready.....they can be fierce!

Some more road hiking

And 'Ta Da'...........Goodbye Colorado!

COACHES CORNER

=======================================================================

You never know what kind of entertainment you'll run into.....
a one man band with a break dancer?........They were good!

A replica of a 'Motel' in the model 'T' days.......They wanted a stall to protect their 'baby'

Pretty bare bones inside....(but at least the car was OK)

Local museum at Encampment......a  covered  wagon

Nice Banjo!

A 'Gypsy' wagon

Sandy and I would do just fine in one of these!
A common sight in Rocky Mountain National Park

Our second and third moose....or is it mooses?...or meese?........(probably just moose)

A hike to the 'Rabbit Ears"

Sandy at one of the 'ears'........actually a volcanic plug

Wild strawberries en route.......delicious!

But dammed tiny.......
......nice treat though

Unfortunately we didn't get to see these dogs
....would have been very interesting!
The 'Beaver Creek' fire - near the Wyoming border

Coming in to load up water

off to the fire

On location and ready to dump

The fire has been burning for a month
They're not trying to put it out......just protecting property

This ride is the 'Best Ever'!.... amazingly fast and exciting.......nothing compares!!

(............We should have tried it!............)

Till the next post
